Description

This very charming perennial spring bulb Scilla hyacinthoides 'Blue Arrow', is new, and rare to find. In late spring or early summer, upright stems carry loose clusters of small, star-shaped flowers of pale violet-blue. Individually, the blooms are held outwards from the stem, on delicate little stalks. There may be a hundred or more blooms per stem, and they open in sequence, from the base to the top and they are delightfully fragrant, too. They are accompanied by strap-shaped, green, basal leaves. When in full flower, Scilla 'Blue Arrow' is around 90cm tall.

Very closely related to the traditional bluebell, Scilla hyacinthoides 'Blue Arrow' is a wonderfully exotic-looking cultivar. It is good for naturalising, or for growing in borders. It is very hardy, and ideal for a site in either full sun or part shade. It likes a well-drained soil, and tolerates plenty of winter and spring moisture –which is handy in the UK!
