Description
If you are wanting a perennial peony that is a little bit different, then you have found it! Paeonia 'Top Brass' is a very beautiful (and special) bomb-shaped lactiflora peony. When the bud first opens, a thick, yellow ball appears between ivory white petals. When fully open, the flowers of Paeonia 'Top Brass' comprise large ivory white outer petals, surrounding a mass of similarly coloured smaller petals with a canary yellow collar, surrounded by a central tuft of pink petals. As a plus, side buds are produced on short lateral joints, meaning that the summer flowering season is extended. Paeonia lactiflora 'Top Brass' is one of a very small number of tri-coloured peonies, and it deserves to be given pride-of-place in the garden.
Even better than all this, the flowers are highly fragrant, making them perfect for both garden displays and cut flowers in the home. The showy perennial Paeonia 'Top Brass' also boasts lush, divided, dark green foliage.

Soak the Paeonia 'Top Brass' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
