Description
In mid-spring, this curious little narcissus will cause visitors to your garden to do a double-take! Reaching just 25cm or so high, Narcissus cordubensis looks like a smallish daffodil, yet it doesn’t! Its petals (perianth segments) are slightly recurved and twisted, and more significantly splayed than the vast majority, giving it an open quality. The cups are small and flattish. The colour of the whole flower is a beautiful deep golden yellow. Even better, each stem produces up to five, sweetly-scented flowers, each about 3cm across. This lovely narcissus has narrow, grass-like foliage.
Suitable for beds and borders, Narcissus fernandesii var. cordubensis is also very much at home in a patio container, rockery or raised bed. Although it will perform very well in part-shade, a spot in full sun will be the ideal place for it to increase happily over time. Classed as a Jonquilla narcissus (daffodil Division 7), it will last well as a cut flower, especially if the water in the vase is changed frequently.
