Description
A curious-looking, but wonderfully wholesome plant, the bergamot produces whorls of hooded flowers with distinctive bracts that are carried up straight stems. In the case of Monarda 'Schneewittchen', the flowers are of the purest of whites, and stand out brilliantly from the deep green foliage (which releases an intense and appealing scent when brushed). Reaching 90cm or so in height, Monarda 'Schneewittchen' is a plant loved by bees and other pollinators—one of its common names in bee balm.
A clump-forming hardy perennial, Monarda 'Schneewittchen' dies back in late autumn and re-emerges in spring. Flowers keep coming from June for around four months. Deadheading will help to prolong the flowering season. Ideal for borders or patio pots in full sun or part shade, the funky-looking flowers will create a talking point with visitors! Incidentally, Monarda also makes and excellent cut flower. This bergamot plant is also known by the names Monarda 'Snow White' and Monarda 'Snow Maiden'.

Useful information
-
Soak the Monarda 'Schneewittchen' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "White bergamot" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
