Description
Make the most of your late summer garden with Eupatorium 'Baby Joe', and enjoy as this little gem throws out a fresh burst of colour through August and September. This easy-to-grow plant likes to soak up every bit of the late summer sun, exploding into a profusion of frizzy purple flower clusters in August and extending the season of colour right through those golden late-summer and autumn weeks. This variety is more compact than other Eupatorium. Eventually, it’ll form a sturdy, dense clump, but it won’t get overly tall which is useful for narrower spaces.
Bees and other pollinators love the nectar-rich flowers of Eupatorium—the late flowering time provides an essential food source so bees can stock up before autumn sets in. If you have a heavy, moisture-retentive or clay soil, unfussy Eupatorium dubium 'Baby Joe' copes well. Along with the flowers, the leaves and stems will also fill their space with bronze and mauve hues, making a great contrast for neighbouring plants. Try combining Eupatorium with other late-summer beauties like Rudbeckia, Echinacea and Sedum to create your own late-summer spectacle!

Useful information
-
Soak the Eupatorium 'Baby Joe' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Joe Pye weed" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
