Description
Create a planting scheme to be proud of with resilient and easy-to-grow Astrantia 'Pink Pride'. Within minimal effort, this hardy perennial is prolific, long flowering and returns every year, of course the fact it is absolutely beautiful is also a notable characteristic! Astrantia major 'Pink Pride', commonly known as pink masterwort, flowers from mid to late summer with multiple blooms per stem. They look gorgeous in the garden and they’re equally useful for cut flower arrangements. On top of that, this plant attracts pollinators so you will be doing your bit for the bees too.
Plant Astrantia major 'Pink Pride' in borders or large containers and over the years it will establish into a neat but dense clump which produces multiple sturdy, upright stems. Unfussy Masterwort thrives in most soils, positioned in sun as well as shadier spots. For a classic cottage garden effect, try mingling them with other summer perennials like Verbena bonariesis, salvias, geraniums or ornamental grasses.
Astrantia, known and admired for its flower heads resembling stars, gets its name from the Latin word aster, meaning “star”.

Useful information
-
Soak the Astrantia 'Pink Pride' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Pink masterwort" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
