Description
Flaunt pure plant finery in shady borders or damp-soil areas, Astilbe 'Delft Lace' is here not just to fill a gap in a tricky, cool space, but it does it with astounding good looks! You know you’re onto a winner with a plant that has gorgeous foliage as well as fabulous flowers. With Astilbe 'Delft Lace', commonly known as false goat's beard, you really do get the best of both worlds. Its lush, fern-like leaves blend rich green with purple tints, and a hint of blue, offset against wine-red stems. In summer, those stems will fizz with an exciting show of fluffy-looking pink flowers which seem to last for ages. When the airy plumes of flowers emerge in summer, the ensemble is magnificent. With its pretty foliage from spring plus flowers in summer, Astilbe 'Delft Lace' creates incredible texture and colour for more dimly lit, damper parts of the garden.
Astilbe 'Delft Lace' is a versatile plant which is fantastic for adding some colour and interest to partially shady borders, especially in summer when these areas can look a little lacklustre. The light pink flowers help to brighten things up and bring some interest to a height (up to 1m), and even once they’ve finished blooming the purple-tinged foliage remains until autumn. Astilbe 'Delft Lace' makes a good choice for lining a pond or a stream, where it will enjoy the moist soil, and it’s also a winner on difficult clay soils. Slugs and snails usually avoid it, and it’s rarely troubled by diseases, making this a wonderfully easy-going and low-maintenance option.

Useful information
-
Soak your Astilbe 'Delft Lace' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "False goat's beard" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
