Description
Aster 'Kristina' is a stunning, late-flowering perennial that brings a refreshing touch of purity to the autumn garden with its beautiful, crisp white blooms. These daisy-like flowers, with their golden-yellow centres, create a dazzling contrast against the plant’s deep green foliage. Compact yet floriferous, 'Kristina' is a wonderful choice for adding brightness to borders or containers when much of the garden is winding down.
Aster novi-belgii 'Kristina' thrives in full sun or partial shade and prefers well-drained, moderately fertile soil. It’s perfect for brightening the front of borders, adding light to mixed beds, or enhancing cottage-style gardens. Its compact habit makes it easy to integrate into a variety of garden settings, and it’s particularly valuable for extending the flowering season into late summer and autumn when other perennials have finished their display.
The pure white flowers of Aster 'Kristina' combine beautifully with other late-flowering perennials. Pair it with deep-coloured companions like Sedum 'Autumn Joy', purple salvias, or asters in shades of pink and blue to create a striking contrast. It also works wonderfully alongside ornamental grasses such as Miscanthus or Pennisetum, which add softness and movement to the border. For a classic, elegant look, mix Symphyotrichum novi-belgii 'Kristina' with other white-flowering plants like anemones or late-blooming Dahlias.
Aster 'Kristina' is a magnet for pollinators, particularly bees and butterflies, which will be drawn to its nectar-rich flowers late in the season. This hardy, low-maintenance plant is easy to grow, reliably returning each year with an even more impressive display. Its compact size and abundant flowering make it perfect for filling gaps in borders, adding structure and interest to your garden through the late summer months into autumn. Aster novi-belgii 'Kristina' is also a fantastic choice for containers, where its clean white blooms can be enjoyed up close. Use a well-draining pot and place it in a sunny or partially shaded position for the best results. Regular watering and feeding will keep the plant healthy and blooming profusely, making it a great option for adding late-season interest to patios, balconies, or small outdoor spaces.
Aster 'Kristina' is an excellent choice for gardeners looking to extend the colour and life of their garden into the autumn. With its crisp white blooms, compact growth, and pollinator-friendly nature, it’s perfect for borders, pots, and wildlife-friendly gardens alike.
Aster 'Kristina' can act as a natural barometer, with its blooms opening wide in dry weather and closing tightly before rain arrives.

Useful information
-
Soak your Aster 'Kristina' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Michaelmas daisy" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
