Description
Extend the allium season with this late-summer delight, Allium angulosum 'Summer Beauty'. If ever you wished you could enjoy the bobbing purple blooms of alliums beyond late spring or early summer, this is one to snap up immediately! Displaying all the wonderful allium characteristics, including nectar-rich globe blooms which are total bee magnets, long, upright stems which provide a chilled-out movement in the border, and a pleasant cool-mauve hue – plant groups of Allium 'Summer Beauty' and you’ll find there’s a whole lot of allium joy to look forward to from mid summer right through to early autumn!
These easy-to-grow and fully hardy perennial alliums grow from bare roots rather than bulbs, and happily establish over the years to produce a strong and impressive chunky group. Run swathes of them through the border or a few focal-point groups, alternatively, give them a sturdy pot on the patio. If you enjoy cutting flowers from the garden to display indoors, you’ll love having an established group of these beauties for fresh snippings through the summer months!

Useful information
-
Plant your Allium 'Summer Beauty' bulbs from mid to late autumn;
Plant in borders or containers in sun or partial shade;
Plant your bulbs two to three times as deep as the bulb is high;
Space the bulbs about twice the bulb diameter apart;
Place the Allium 'Summer Beauty' bulbs with the pointed side facing upwards.
-
Soak the Allium 'Summer Beauty' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
