Description

Welcome pollinators to your patch with a generous clump of Allium 'Avatar'. This profuse perennial Allium will keep the bees in business for most of summer with a long-lasting supply of pretty pink, nectar-filled flowerheads. Butterflies find them irresistible too. Rather than growing from bulbs, these alliums are clump-forming perennials supplied as bare roots. Over time, 'Avatar' alliums establish into hearty groups which produce multiple stems topped with globe-shaped blooms which bob and sway blissfully in the summer breeze. 

You can use Allium 'Avatar' to fill a space in a sunny border with free draining soil. Growing to around 30-40cm tall, its compact size makes it a good choice for close to the front of the border or for containers. Not only is this a beautiful and long-lasting plant, but this variety is low maintenance, easy to grow and fully winter hardy. Allium ‘Avatar’ combines well with many garden perennials with its spherical form bringing contrast and interest.

Useful information

    • Soak your Allium 'Avatar' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.

    • Plant your bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.

    • Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.

    • Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
