Description
Make a big impression with impressive Persicaria amplexicaulis 'Fat Domino' (or Red Bistort), a burly character with a spirited flair of enthusiasm, perfectly suited to mixed sunny borders and cottage gardens. Throwing out a fountain of long, rigid stems each topped with a tail-like cluster of crimson blooms, it’s impressive without being hard work. Fast growing and relatively quick to establish, even in year one it rattles things up with some clout!
This Persicaria variety has almost a grassy appeal to it, with chunky sword-like leaves starting at the base of each stem. Over the years it forms a good clump with multiple stems, appearing as a soft haze of pink from a distance, also attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies. A gorgeous addition for a mixed flower border where it’ll proudly stand its ground with a sturdy, upright display during summer every year. Being resilient and drought tolerant, Persicaria 'Fat Domino' is also a good one for trendy gravel gardens.

Useful information
-
Soak the Persicaria 'Fat Domino' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Red bistort" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
