Description
Clematis 'Jackmanii', or Jackman's clematis, is a true classic, gracing gardens with its deep, velvety violet-purple blooms since the 19th century. Its large, open flowers, reaching up to 12cm across, create a stunning contrast against their backdrop of lush green foliage. The delicate greenish-cream anthers add a refined touch, making each bloom a masterpiece in itself. Flowering generously from midsummer to early autumn, Clematis 'Jackmanii' is perfect for adding a long-lasting splash of colour to trellises, fences, and pergolas. Whether climbing up an old tree or weaving through a rose bush, it never fails to impress.
Despite its regal appearance, Clematis 'Jackmanii' is delightfully low-maintenance. A simple hard prune in late winter or early spring ensures vigorous new growth and a fresh display of flowers each year. This robust climber thrives in sun or partial shade, happily scrambling up to 3 metres with ease. With its rich history and timeless appeal, Clematis 'Jackmanii' remains one of the most popular clematis varieties worldwide. Also known as Clematis × jackmanii, it proudly holds the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit—a well-deserved recognition for its reliability, beauty, and outstanding performance.
Clematis 'Jackmanii' is supplied as a pip with a well-developed root system, ready to thrive in your garden. You can see an example of a pip in the last image.

Useful information
-
Soak your Clematis 'Jackmanii' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Jackman's clematis" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
