Description
Everyone knows baby’s breath as a cut flower. Gypsophila paniculata 'Bristol Fairy', with its cloud of tiny white petals, is almost a must in floral arrangements and bouquets because of its light and airy texture and ability to soften the outlines of arrangements. Gypsophila even makes a good dried flower. However, not as many people think of growing this sweet and delicate beauty in their gardens to provide a cloud of pretty blooms that will delight you most of the summer!
Gracy says:
"Gypsophila 'Bristol Fairy' is a double flowered version of Baby’s Breath that will flourish in your garden provided you ensure she gets full sun, well-drained, alkaline soil and is watered well during the flowering season."
The genus name Gypsophila is derived from the Greek words gypsos (gypsum) and philios (love), referring to the plant's preference for high-calcium soils.

Useful information
-
Soak your Gypsophila 'Bristol Fairy' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Baby's breath" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
