Description
With thick, heart-shaped leaves, Hosta 'Sun Mouse' is a stunning yellow descendent of Hosta 'Blue Mouse Ears'. Its colour holds well into summer, and is perfect for brightening up hosta troughs and shade gardens. Although it may be grown in a bed or border, it is far better to grow this miniature hosta in a container, where you can see it at close quarters—remember, this is a small plant! 'Sun Mouse' is a perfect hosta in miniature, with a height of just 15-20cm, and a spread of 20-25cm. Oh, and lavender flowers appear in mid-summer, too. Hosta 'Sun Mouse' is best grown in an area that receives morning sun, or filtered shade through the day.
There is growing interest in the beautiful miniature hostas, such as with the 'Mouse Ear' series. And we are delighted to offer several of them. Soak the Hosta 'Sun Mouse' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Miniature hosta" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
