Description
Clematis 'Vitiwester', also known as Clematis 'Burning Love', is a climber that brings deep, romantic tones to the garden with its rich red blooms. From midsummer to early autumn, this variety produces an abundance of velvety flowers, each reaching up to 10cm across, their striking dark crimson petals set against a centre of pale yellow anthers. The contrast is as dramatic as it is beautiful, making Clematis 'Vitiwester' a real showstopper when trained up trellises, fences, or pergolas. Its dark green foliage provides the perfect backdrop, enhancing the intensity of its fiery display throughout the season.
Reliable and easy to grow, deep red Clematis 'Vitiwester' thrives in sun or partial shade, happily scrambling through shrubs or winding elegantly up a garden structure. It flowers on the current season’s growth, meaning a light prune in early spring will encourage even more of its signature blooms. Whether adding a touch of passion to a cottage garden or bringing warmth to a city balcony, Clematis 'Vitiwester' is a fantastic choice for those seeking long-lasting colour and effortless charm. Pair it with pale or white-flowered companions to make its deep red hues truly pop, or let it shine solo for a striking standalone feature.
Clematis 'Vitiwester' is supplied as a pip with a well-developed root system, ready to thrive in your garden. You can see an example of a pip in the last image.

Useful information
-
Soak your Clematis 'Vitiwester' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Climbing leather flower" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
