Planting Crocosmia (also known as montbretia) in your garden this year is a good investment, not only in this summer season, but in future summers as well. This plant with its sword-like leaves and brightly-coloured funnel-like flowers, will adorn your midsummer to fall garden with an exotic beauty for years to come. The Crocosmia flowers, in bright shades of yellow, red and orange, can top 1.2 metres, but more often than not fall in the 60-80cm range. Crocosmia plants are great additions to garden borders and beds if planted in the right position for their ultimate height. Crocosmias flower for 5 to 8 weeks and make long-lasting cut flowers, too. They don't like dry soil, but do like full sun.
