Also known as the golden lady tulip, this elegant dame will be the life and soul of the spring garden, showing off her gorgeous frock of bicolour petals from March onwards. The chic fluted flowers of botanical Tulip clusiana var. chrysantha open gradually to give a long display, and once fully open they form a stunning star-like appearance from above. This early-flowering beauty is dainty and petite, making it the perfect choice for growing in pots, rockeries or narrow borders, and also looks a treat in a gravel garden.
This simple and natural perennial tulip is worth its weight in gold in the garden, not only putting on a spectacular display during spring, but often repeating year after year. Sitting on short but slender stalks, each bloom emerges with reddish outer petals, which then gradually open to reveal a dazzling display of golden-yellow inner petals, each reflexed to create the much-loved flouncy flute shape.
