Description

For sheer theatre in the spring border, Tulipa 'Bombastic Red' more than lives up to its name. This spectacular double late tulip produces enormous, peony-like blooms packed with layers of rich, gleaming scarlet petals, creating a look that is both opulent and wonderfully energetic. The colour is a bold, almost Ferrari red, with a brilliance that catches the eye from quite some distance. Planted in groups, Tulip 'Bombastic Red' brings real drama to beds, borders and statement containers, where its full flowers lend a luxurious, almost couture quality to the display. Despite its lavish appearance, it has that classic tulip clarity of form, only turned up several glorious notches.

As the flowers mature, Tulip 'Bombastic Red' develops even more presence, each bloom opening generously to show off its many-petalled structure. It pairs beautifully with softer pinks, dusky plums or crisp white tulips, but it is equally convincing planted alone for a confident block of colour. Tulip 'Bombastic Red' also makes an excellent cut flower, bringing its sumptuous, peony-style flowers indoors just when the garden begins to gather momentum. For gardeners who love bold colour and extravagant form, Tulip 'Bombastic Red' is an easy choice. Few spring bulbs offer quite the same combination of glamour, substance and unapologetic red charm as Tulipa 'Bombastic Red'.
