Paeonia 'Lady in Red' is a peony of unmistakable presence, bringing early summer borders to life with sumptuous, richly coloured blooms. The large, semi-double to double flowers open in shades of deep red washed with purplish-pink, each petal softly curved and often lightly fragrant. Held proudly on sturdy stems to around 90cm, Paeonia 'Lady in Red' rises above handsome, divided foliage that emerges in spring with an attractive red tint before maturing to lush green. The overall effect is generous yet refined: a plant that never clamours for attention, but quietly commands it.
Perfect for mixed borders or as a statement among roses and irises, Paeonia 'Lady in Red' is fully hardy and long-lived, settling in happily and returning with increasing abundance each year. Soak the Paeonia 'Lady in Red' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Peony" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost within a week of delivery and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
