Plant daffodil bulbs from September to November. If needed, store them somewhere cool and dry, away from mice, but plant before they begin to deteriorate.
'Prom Dance'
daffodil
Narcissus 'Prom Dance' has all the flourish its name suggests, with fragrant, multi-headed blooms that seem dressed for rather more than an ordinary spring afternoon. White to pale primrose petals form a graceful backdrop to the distinctive split corona, which opens into a flattened, frilled cup of fresh lemon yellow. Rather than the familiar trumpet shape, the centre spreads across the petals in decorative, ruffled segments, giving Narcissus 'Prom Dance' an unusually elaborate appearance. Several flowers can be carried together, creating a generous display and allowing that lovely fragrance to make itself known. Cheerful without being brash, Narcissus 'Prom Dance' combines soft colouring with an intriguing flower form that rewards a closer look.
In borders and containers, Narcissus 'Prom Dance' works beautifully among other spring bulbs, where its pale petals and lemon-yellow centres bring lightness to richer colours and freshness to pastel combinations. Try it alongside blue muscari, violet tulips or creamy narcissus for a display with plenty of contrast but no unnecessary shouting. Its fragrant flowers are also excellent for cutting, bringing both their unusual frilled form and spring scent indoors. Awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit, Narcissus 'Prom Dance' has recognised garden credentials to accompany its more flamboyant qualities. Planted in groups, Narcissus 'Prom Dance' creates a particularly charming effect, with those multi-headed stems producing an abundance of flowers from relatively little ground space. Elegant, scented and pleasingly unconventional, this is a daffodil with some decidedly fancy footwork.

Choose full sun or partial shade. Improve heavy soil with organic matter and horticultural grit. For containers, use peat-free multipurpose compost with good drainage.
Plant bulbs pointed side upwards, two to three times their own height deep and around 10cm apart. Smaller bulbs can be planted slightly closer together.
Water after planting if the soil is dry. Established bulbs in borders rarely need more, but water during dry spring weather and keep containers lightly moist.
Remove faded flowers, but leave the stems and foliage until they turn yellow and die back naturally. The bulbs can remain planted throughout the year.
