Unpack bare roots or rhizomes on arrival and plant them within a week. Until then, keep them somewhere cool and ensure the roots remain slightly moist, never wet.
'Blush'
There is a gentle refinement to Lythrum 'Blush' that sets it apart from its more vivid relations. Rising in neat, upright clumps, Lythrum 'Blush' produces slender spires threaded with soft, pale-pink flowers from midsummer into early autumn. Each raceme seems almost weightless, the delicate colouring catching the light beautifully while still offering the vertical presence gardeners appreciate in a border. Awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit, Lythrum 'Blush' is as reliable as it is graceful, returning each year with quietly increasing confidence. The lance-shaped foliage forms a tidy green framework early in the season, before the flowering stems begin their elegant ascent.
In a mixed border, Lythrum 'Blush' has a remarkable ability to soften stronger colours while still holding its own among bolder companions. Its airy spires weave effortlessly through grasses, late-flowering perennials, and naturalistic plantings, lending height without heaviness. Plant Lythrum 'Blush' where the soil retains a little moisture and it will reward you with weeks of gentle colour just as summer begins to mellow. Pollinators visit freely, drawn to the open flowers, while the plant itself remains pleasingly well-behaved. Whether placed beside water, in a wildlife-friendly border, or simply among relaxed cottage plantings, Lythrum 'Blush' brings a calm, luminous charm that feels both natural and quietly sophisticated.

Remove the packaging straight away, check the compost and water thoroughly if dry. Check the plant’s hardiness before placing it outdoors. Plant into a border or permanent container within a month, choosing the position recommended for the variety. Keep the top of the root ball level with the surrounding soil, firm gently and water well.
Soak the roots in water for three to six hours immediately before planting. Keep any crown, buds or emerging shoots above the water where possible.
Pot most bare roots into 15–20cm pots filled with peat-free multipurpose compost. Large or depth-sensitive roots, including peonies, are often best planted directly into borders.
Arrange the roots naturally without bending them. Cover the roots completely, positioning the crown and buds at the depth recommended for that particular perennial.
Keep pots in a sheltered outdoor position and water whenever the compost begins to dry. Grow on until roots hold the compost together when lifted from the pot.
Plant into a suitable border or permanent container once well rooted. Add a label and water regularly throughout the first growing season while the perennial establishes.
