Description
Lewisia 'Safira Coral' is a small-scale alpine with a surprisingly sunny temperament, forming a neat rosette of fleshy green leaves before bursting into colour in late spring and early summer. This charming cliff maids variety sends up branching stems carrying coral-pink flowers with a silky sheen, each bloom opening like a miniature parasol above the foliage. The shade is warm, lively and flattering, bright enough to catch the eye without barging into the garden like a brass band. Compact and well behaved, Lewisia 'Safira Coral' is particularly effective in alpine beds, gravel gardens and rockeries, where its tidy form and jewel-like flowers can be properly admired.
For best results, plant Lewisia 'Safira Coral' in very well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered position, keeping it away from prolonged winter wet. Pots and troughs suit it beautifully, allowing drainage to be kept sharp and the flowers to be enjoyed close up on a patio or doorstep. Pair Lewisia 'Safira Coral' with thyme, saxifrages, small sedums or pale gravel for a natural alpine display with polished colour and pleasing texture. Low-growing, cheerful and quietly elegant, Lewisia cotyledon 'Safira Coral' brings a warm coral glow to smaller spaces, proving that a plant need not be tall to make a memorable entrance.

Useful information
-
Soak the Lewisia 'Safira Coral' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Cliff maids" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost within a week of delivery and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
