Description
According to myths, the gods of ancient Roman and Greek times spent a lot of time turning unfortunate men (and women) into flowers. Crocus, a mortal youth, was apparently one. Depending on the version you read, he was either being punished for being unhappy with his love affair with a nymph, or was changed because the god Hermes felt guilty about accidentally killing him with a discus.
