Description
Anemone 'Ruffled Swan' is one of those perennials that manages to look both elegant and quietly adventurous at the same time. Rising to around 80cm, Anemone 'Ruffled Swan' forms a handsome clump of mid-green, toothed foliage, each leaf neatly divided into three lobes for a fresh, textured effect. From summer well into autumn, tall branched stems carry a succession of semi-double flowers, each one opening white on the face with a soft yellow centre, while the reverse is washed in the palest blue. That subtle two-tone colouring gives Anemone 'Ruffled Swan' an almost porcelain quality, especially when the blooms move in low evening light or drift above surrounding grasses and late-season companions.
With its long flowering season and refined habit, Anemone 'Ruffled Swan' brings welcome freshness just when many borders are beginning to look a little tired. It works beautifully in naturalistic planting, cottage-style borders or among shrubs, where its airy stems can weave through neighbouring plants without creating heaviness. Despite its delicate appearance, Anemone 'Ruffled Swan' is a reliable garden performer, returning each year with increasing poise and presence. Plant Anemone 'Ruffled Swan' where its pale blue-backed petals can be admired up close, because this is a variety with details worth noticing. For gardeners who like their late colour with a side of grace, Anemone 'Ruffled Swan' is a very easy favourite to make room for.

Soak your Anemone 'Ruffled Swan' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting.
Plant your "Japanese anemone" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors.
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed.
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
