Description
Anemone × lipsiensis brings a soft wash of primrose-yellow to the spring garden, just when woodland edges and shady corners are waking up. Known as the yellow wood anemone, Anemone × lipsiensis is a vigorous, rhizomatous perennial which settles in with pleasing confidence, forming natural-looking drifts beneath deciduous shrubs, trees and lightly shaded borders. Its deeply divided green leaves make a fresh, ferny carpet, above which the pale yellow flowers appear like little saucers of captured sunshine. There is nothing shouty about Anemone × lipsiensis, but it has that quietly persuasive charm which makes you wonder why every garden does not have a patch.
Once established, Anemone × lipsiensis will spread gently by rhizomes, creating an airy colony that looks beautifully at home in informal planting schemes. It is especially lovely with spring bulbs, hellebores and early foliage plants, where its colour feels warm rather than bright, elegant rather than eager. Give it humus-rich, moisture-retentive soil and dappled shade, and it will reward you with an effortlessly natural display year after year. Anemone × lipsiensis is ideal for gardeners who enjoy plants with a slightly wild spirit, but still want good manners. A dependable woodland treasure, Anemone × lipsiensis turns spring shade into something quietly luminous.

Useful information
-
Soak the Anemone × lipsiensis roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Yellow wood anemone" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost within a week of delivery and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
