Description
Salvias, or forms of flowering sage, have never been more popular, and the Salvia 'Feathers' range, one of the newer strains, has broken boundaries. All plants in the range have unique, deeply incised, scented foliage that gives plants a light elegance.
If you’re looking for a low-maintenance, perennial plant which will provide a long season of interest, you’ve just found a good one. Salvia 'Feathers Peacock' will not only provide colour in a sunny space with a fabulous purple plumage of feathery flowers, but the foliage brings fragrance too. This unique variety starts flowering earlier than most salvias with the first blooms usually appearing in May or June, these keep going all the way through to August, then after a short break they have a second burst in autumn!
Salvia 'Feathers Peacock' is tough and reliable, tolerating harsh conditions including summer heat and drought as well as freezing winter temperatures. This really is a plant which you don’t have to worry about, whatever the weather. All it asks for is a sunny position and free-draining soil, plus a little bit of watering while it’s settling in. Salvia 'Feathers Peacock' has a bushy and compact habit which looks neat in a mixed border or pot, providing a dense display of blooms on upright stems. It’s perfect for an informal cottage garden or pastel planting scheme. This is a perennial you’ll love to see returning in your garden each year, the bees will love it too!
Salvia 'Feathers Peacock' is one of the earliest-flowering salvias you will ever find, and the flowering period is longer than for most, too: from June to August, with a rebloom in autumn. Look out for its stunning purple-blue flowers, carried on large stalks. An upright, clump-forming deciduous hardy perennial, Salvia 'Feathers Peacock' has dark green, oval, deeply cut and aromatic leaves. Grow it in a well-drained soil in full sun or light shade.
Salvia 'Feathers Peacock' is well branched, and remains small and compact, at just around 55cm tall, and 25cm across. It is perfect for the front of a perennial border, or in a patio pot, however, it really comes into its own when planted en masse.

Useful information
-
Soak the Salvia 'Feathers Peacock' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Flowering sage" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
