Description
This sparky little flower quite aptly carries the name of a safety match. Crocosmia (syn. montbretia) 'Lucifer's delightful little red flowers look for all the world like little flames lit by a matchstick if seen from a distance. And when a group of them flower together, the small blooms dancing around on the long stems will definitely appear like moving flames and sparks. The Crocosmia 'Lucifer', originally from South Africa, produces multiple small blooms of fiery red and yellow which will burst up through the plant’s spiky foliage to attract hummingbirds – and you. They also make good cut flowers so you can easily take some of their spark indoors.
* Crocosmia are hardy perennials and flower every year once established. After planting, they will flower from their second year onwards. In the first year they may produce foliage only.
