Description

Have some fun in the garden with playful Geranium 'Splish-Splash'! It bursts into bloom from late spring every year, each flower sploshed with spontaneous, carefree purple splatters – its presence in the garden is totally joyful. This cheery meadow cranesbill brings a touch of originality with its uniquely marked flowers. Each saucer-shaped flower of Geranium 'Splish-Splash' is an original, different to its neighbour, making a lovely, almost hand-painted ensemble held above fresh green, deeply divided foliage. Enjoy seeing this little artist at work for most of the summer, with flowers produced almost continuously from June through to August. Sometimes they bloom again in autumn if cut back in summer.

Flowering in the summer months, Geranium 'Splish-Splash' will most certainly be a splashy character to liven up mixed borders in sun or partial shade. It’s lovely with other summer blooming perennials, around shrubs, or to bring life to patio containers. Forming an attractive mounded habit, this clump forming perennial gradually spreads out to fill a gap, each year the clump will return slightly larger than before. Thriving in most soil types, Geranium 'Splish-Splash' is an easy-going filler for gaps or for the edges of borders and patios. Like other meadow cranesbill, it’s also a great plant for pollinators, brining in bees and other useful insects, and is tough and resilient too, rarely troubled by pests or diseases.

Useful information

    • Soak the Geranium 'Splish-Splash' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting

    • Plant your "Meadow cranesbill" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors

    • Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).

    • Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
