Like most hardy geraniums, Geranium cantabrigiense 'Intense' is as tough as nails. It’s a beauty to enjoy in summer, but also not one to worry about in winter and also not fussy about soil. Leave it to its own devices in winter and it will be back the following year, bigger, better and even more determined to shine. Cut it back after it has finished flowering—in a long summer it might reward you with a second flush towards the end of the season!

Soak the Geranium 'Intense' roots in water for 3-6 hours prior to planting
Plant your "Cranesbill" bare roots into temporary pots with a multipurpose compost in spring and grow-on in a sheltered spot outdoors
Choose a pot which comfortably fits the bare roots. Some have a noticeable crown which should be just below the soil surface with any top growth exposed. Some varieties are a length of root which should be planted lengthways and shallowly (1-2cm deep).
Plant out into borders or permanent containers in late spring or early summer once in full growth. Choose a position in sun or shade depending on the variety.
