Description
The wild Anemone blanda, with its blue flowers, is one of the most dramatic and intensely-coloured of any wild plant. But here we have the selected form Anemone blanda 'Charmer'—which is even better! When planted en masse, it produces a large carpet of soft pink across the ground. Look closely at a flower, and each cigar-shaped petal is two-thirds deep rose pink and one-third white. Then, in the centre of the bloom, sits a boss of bright yellow stamens. The overall effect is truly eye-catching. Not only that, but the flowers are long lasting, and if grown in semi-shade will last even longer!
This anemone is ideal for a naturalistic garden. Scatter the knobbly bulbs—which look decidedly dry and unpromising on arrival—at the front of the border, and plant them where they fall. In late winter they will start to develop, and then they will transform that area of the garden. Or, plant Anemone blanda 'Charmer' into seasonal pots or windowboxes, for close-up colour.
